CHARLES SAMUEL MARKS

Charles Samuel MARKS died at the Featherston Military Hospital 12th November 1918 during the 1918 Influenza Epidemic.

Two death notices appeared in the Auckland Star.
Saturday 16 November 1918. Of bronchial pneumonia - death the day after Armistice Day.

He is now buried at Purewa Cemetery in Auckland and his mother Helen was buried in the same grave 2 February 1942. He was initially buried at Featherston however on 16 January 1921 he was re-interred at Purewa. The Purewa grave has War Graves headstone. It is understood his body may have been returned to the family home in Union St Auckland prior to the reburial. There is a family story that his daughter who was born in 1918 was born deaf and dumb because the shock of the news to Charles’ wife Gladys MARKS.
